Raising the Roof – literally.featured
This was the moment it finally felt real. Despite never having lived in the house, we spent a lot of time there. We celebrated our anniversary, 4th of July, Rowan’s 2nd birthday, and spontaneous cookouts in between. For months, we saw no change as we waited for drawings, approvals, and permits. I said many times, “The day the roof comes off, is the day I’ll start getting excited.” Guess who’s excited?!
We maintained the structure of the first floor; however, it’s been completely gutted. The house has “excellent bones” (a very technical term I’ve learned during this process), so we knew we just needed to reconfigure the floor plan rather than tear down and rebuild. While there is a basement, it’s not a space that can be finished, which led us to the decision to add a second floor. From what I keep hearing, it seems as though three teenage girls may need some space, so I’m not regretting this decision.
